What are your first thoughts when you hear the word operetta? Perhaps light entertainment, lavish costumes, beautiful music, humour, satire and a grand finale. All this and more you get in the operetta gala An Evening with Thalia.
In classical mythology, Thalia was the muse of comedy, but has since the 18th century come to symbolize all the performing arts. In her golden attire, she welcomes everyone who enters Malmö Opera and now she is at the centre of a colourful operetta gala.
THE SWEDISH CITY OF OPERETTAS
The gala is a loving tribute to the performing arts, which so many of us have missed and longed for over the past year. A magnificent evening featuring a string of operetta classics performed by the orchestra, choir and soloists.
There will be contemporary pieces as well as flashbacks to Malmö’s glorious history as the “Swedish city of operettas,” where Swedish stars such as Gaby Stenberg, Per Grundén, Marianne Wesén, Marianne Mörck, Lars Humble and Jan Malmsjö shone in elegant and humorous performances.
